This story began the previous semester in which I had to take a physical education class. I did not know which one to choose, as there were so many sports, but my brother eventually convinced me to take self-defense, as we practiced martial arts. At first, I did not feel comfortable since the teacher taught a martial art called Judo which I had never practiced. I have done sports like boxing, jiu-jitsu, and mixed martial arts but never that kind of sport. However, in a short time, I got used to the classes.
After a while, almost in the middle of the semester, the teacher mentioned to us that we should compete in a Judo tournament in which his son, a young boy who was a black belt, would participate. In no time, I signed up with low expectations as everyone in my class was an expert in Judo, but I was not scared but excited because I had been training hard to prove that I was good too.
The day of the competition I had woken up tired, as I had been sick, but I still went to the competition where we were weighed and registered. In a matter of hours, we were competing, and I was still nervous as in all the competitions I had been to. Sometime later, a friend of mine started his first match and lost to our teacher's son. Then it was my turn with another boy and guess what! I beat him in just 20 seconds, as time went on, I kept winning and finally, it was the teacher's son's turn, and despite having everything against me I beat him. I couldn't believe it; I was so excited that my friend hugged me in no time.
Shortly after, I won my teacher came up to me and congratulated me saying that this was not luck but the effort I had been putting into my training. So, the moral of this story is that although many times you feel as things are going to go wrong even when you do them; maybe they go totally different with what you expect as it happened to me in my first Judo competition.
