Family Meal
Last year, during the Christmas holidays, my parents had decided to invite the whole family for lunch. At first, we had thought about inviting just a few relatives, maybe seven or eight, but shortly after, my parents changed their minds and wanted to invite everyone. We had planned for about twenty people. So, we called each member of the family and invited them to lunch, which was going to be on December 31st at 2:00 p.m. We had asked everyone to be on time because it's very annoying when food gets cold. We had been planning this event for two weeks, and during that time, we had written down everything we would need: meat, potatoes, sodas, vegetables for the salad, wine, candy, and other things.
Eventually, the big day arrived. We had been cleaning all morning to make sure everything looked perfect. Shortly after, the family began to arrive — first my dad’s side, then my mom’s. After a while, we noticed that some cousins hadn’t arrived yet, so we asked them why they hadn't come. They answered, “Don't worry, we're already on our way!”
We were cooking when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and, in no time, a lot of people came in — way more than we had expected! They were arriving one by one, and I was feeling nervous seeing so many people. It felt like a concert crowd squeezed into our living room. And the worst part? We didn’t have enough food for everyone!
So, I turned to my mom and asked, “What are we going to do?” We thought for a while, and finally, we decided to buy more food and split some dishes in half to make it work. Eventually, we managed to solve the problem, but we learned something very important: next time, we must express ourselves more clearly when inviting people!
