From Student to Moderator!

Christmas season was around the corner, and Christmas festivities had started to be planned in every major at UNACH. Inicially, my classmate Kenneth and I presented the main points of the program while students from first semester were organizing their scenary to act out a role play based on Christmas and how it was celebrated in different parts of the world. "They will make a good first impression" our teacher Magui thought. They had been working so hard the past weeks that they had found acting pleasing.

Shortly after, considering that every single dramatization had been well-prepared, each group of students got a big round of applauses for their participation. In no time, I felt like a real moderator, being part of the main speech, contrasting the presentations, and analyzing essential details of Christmas celebrations in several countries. Everything seemed perfect but we had forgotten a particular factor to finish the program in high note...

The program had been performed in a very smooth way that Ken and I forgot to take the time. It was supposed to last 2 hours but one hour and a half has passed by already. After a while, the next thing that Ken and I were found doing was improvising. Can you believe that? Something already established had to be extended for a little while. We decided to make a last-minute reflection on the dramatizations presented and it did nor turn out as we expected. It was even better than we have imagined. Ken and I did not only receive a huge "congratulations" from the major's headmistress but the admiration from our fellow classmates and professors.

At the end, I realized that being a moderator for a university's program is in a way similar to being a speaker in an international conference. You get the same chills!

If you asked me, I would take part in every program of my major. It would be my pleasure to keep people engaged in the English language and its connection to our daily life.
