Inductive reasoning is an important element for critical thinking since the writer must reach a general conclusion through the observation of something specific. In other words, the conclusion is only a probability because it is not certain and it can be more probable to be truth depending on the observations and how objective the writer is. Furthermore, to be more precise it is necessary to take into account the main principles of inductive generalizations. If the writer has reliable information, then the data and the conclusion would be more probable to be truth. It means that having a sample size and there are larger numbers it can reduce the margin of error. Moreover, a stratified sampling and randomness can affect to the result depending on the populations. Even though randomness can have higher chances to be truth there are other cases where the population have distinct subgroups causing troubles at the moment of making generalizations.
Statistical arguments are a way to enhance the inductive reasoning because there are more probabilities that the conclusion is truth since the writer have data support. In the other side, analogy is another method of inductive reasoning is based on the similarities between two situations. For instance, if an educational institution has improved the level of English of the students by investing in technology, then we can suppose that if other institution does the same is going to have the same results. Taking this into account, it is possible to be more certain when writing an inductive reasoning because the more information or similarities we have then more chances to reduce the margin of error we have.
It is important to evaluate the sources for credible information for stablishing a good statement. First, you have to check the qualifications of the author because with that we can assume if he/she writes in an objective way. Also, the citations or evidence can be a good point to evaluate since it allows us to see how the author used that information and the conclusion.
When writing an argumentative essay, it is important to organize the main points you want to write in a specific order to make it easier. You can also write the examples for a better understand. Furthermore, the thesis statement should be clear and specific. Furthermore, it is important to avoid logical fallacies, questions or assumptions without information. This can lead a better organized and will improve the argumentative essays.
