  • My teaching methodology

    Dear students

This plan outlines how I structure my teaching practices in class. Each day, we will focus on a specific language skill, with an emphasis on grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking, and pronunciation. By analyzing each skill in depth, we can enhance our overall understanding of English through various learning techniques. On Wednesdays, we will concentrate on grammar topics to build a solid understanding of language structure. To support this, we will watch educational videos and complete online grammar exercises. On Thursdays, we will focus on the four core language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. These integrated activities will help you apply what you've learned in a meaningful way. Fridays will be dedicated to improving pronunciation. We will learn and practice IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) transcriptions, often through listening to and analyzing song lyrics. Assignments will be due one day before the start of the following week, giving you nearly a full week to complete them. Late submissions will not be accepted unless you have a valid and documented reason for being unable to complete your work on time.

In summary, each week will be structured as follows:

    • Wednesdays – Grammar

    • Thursdays – Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking

    • Fridays – Pronunciation and IPA Practice

      Dear students,

This checklist outlines the steps you should follow to understand the grammatical concepts of used to and would for referring to past activities. The planned activities focus on three key resources that provide reliable and clear explanations: YouTube, the Top Notch book, and online grammar exercises. I strongly encourage you to take notes and complete the grammar exercises carefully. These resources will significantly enhance both your understanding and use of the language.

Study and analyze the book Elementary Introduction to Phonemic Transcription by Jacqueline Armijos et al. (2021), focusing specifically on pages 61-68. After completing your analysis and pronunciation practice, concentrate on the exercises on page 64

For your homework, consult online dictionary such as dictionary.com to verify in IPA, the standard pronunciation of the words provided on page 64. Then, transcribe the listed words phonemically, by hand, include the translation or definitions of those words. Do not forget to paint the accent or stress over each word when it is needed. For example: in the online dictionary the word pronunciation appears as /prənʌn siˈeɪ ʃən /.  The primary stress is painted in the middle of /iˈeɪ/; however, the primary stress must be relocated over the /eɪ/ diphthongized vowel sound as follows /prənʌnsiéɪʃən

Once you have completed the transcription, submit your work for page 64 through the assigned resource in the Moodle platform by the due date.

Finally, practice the transcribed words aloud at home for a future oral-reading evaluation.

      1.     Read the text Personality from nature or nurture? Employ the two skimming and scanning techniques. Include sticky notes and vocabulary flash cards.

      2.     Then, check the teaching materials in case you do not know how to write a proper topic sentence.

      3.     Do a double check to detect possible mistakes, mainly grammar structures (proper sentence), spelling and incoherent sentence.

      4.     Submit your sticky notes, flash cards, and your topic sentence ON TIME.

      Dear students,

I kindly ask you to submit a complete paragraph in which you include a closing or concluding sentence. The content of your paragraph must be about the reading passage: Personality: from nature or nurture, Top-notch book, unit 7, page 80. Additionally, it is NOT compulsory to add at the end of your paragraph either an opinion, a suggestion or a prediction. It is mostly up to you. Do not forget to include the names' participants on your written submission. Finally, There must be only one paragraph per each group.

    • A hook can be many things such as a fact, a statistics, a quotation, a description of a person or a thing, a question, a metaphor, an anecdote, a contradictory statement, a joke among others. There are compulsory considerations when selecting a hook, it must be relevant to the topic sentence and its controlling idea. Even though, a joke may be considered as a hook, the writer must maintain the appropriate formality of academic writing, known as tone and style. All of those considerations will enhance the readers’ understanding clearly and easily. It can be concluded that to maintain a reader’s interest, a writer must eliminate all possible distractors, and be in readers’ shoes when selecting a hook.

Do not forget to check spelling and grammar structures. Finally, be ready for an oral lesson about the same reading content next week.

      Kind regards,

      Dear students

Study and analyze the book Elementary Introduction to Phonemic Transcription by Jacqueline Armijos et al. (2021), focusing specifically on pages 124-133. After completing your analysis and pronunciation practice, concentrate on the exercises on page 128

For your homework, consult online dictionary such as dictionary.com to verify in IPA, the standard pronunciation of the words provided on page 128.

Once you have completed the transcription, submit your work for page 128 through the assigned resource in the Moodle platform by the due date.

Finally, practice the transcribed words aloud at home for a future oral-reading evaluation.
