I believe Finland’s approach is very wise, as it respects the natural pace at which children learn. Starting formal schooling at the age of 7 allows young children to enjoy their childhood, develop their creativity, and learn through play. It also shows that spending more hours in the classroom does not necessarily lead to better learning. What truly matters is the quality of education, not the quantity.
Recommendations:
1. Start formal education a bit later, allowing more time for free play in the early years.
2. Reduce homework and classroom hours, while improving teaching methods.
3. Invest in teacher training and give educators the recognition they deserve, as in Finland.
4. Eliminate the pressure of standardized tests and focus more on meaningful learning and students’ emotional well-being.
5. Invest in creating a more relaxed, creative, and humane educational environment that motivates and respects each student.
