The Barranquilla Carnival is one of the largest and most colorful festivals in Latin America. It is celebrated every year in February or March, just before Lent. During Carnival, the streets of Barranquilla are filled with parades, music, dancing, colorful costumes, and traditional masks. One of the most famous characters is the Marimonda, a comical figure with a long nose. Traditional dances such as Cumbia and Garabato are also performed.

The Carnival motto is:

"Whoever lives it, is whoever enjoys it!"

and perfectly reflects the joyful and festive spirit of the Colombian people.
