To prepare for Speaking Task 4, I focus on quickly understanding the main idea of the academic passage by identifying the definition or concept and any important details. Then, while listening to the lecture, I take notes on how the professor explains or gives examples related to that concept. I pay close attention to the examples because they usually help me understand the idea better. When speaking, I first say, “The passage explains that…” to introduce the main idea, and then, “The professor adds that…” or “For example, the professor mentions... ” to connect the lecture to the reading. I make sure to clearly show how the example supports the concept. Practicing this structure helps me stay organized and speak more confidently during the exam.
