The use of clear words, logical reasoning, and objective language is essential for building up solid arguments. Therefore, language plays a key role in expressing our ideas. When explaining a complex topic, clear definitions makes it easier for the recipient to understand the message. On the other hand, when we use emotive language—such as saying that people are “furious”—can distort the argument, as it appeals to emotions, not facts.
Furthermore, we must be wary of logical fallacies, as they weaken our arguments. For example, when someone attacks to someone else instead of refuting their own ideas, and generalizations are made in hasty conclusions without clear evidence. Both fallacies may seem convincing at the beginning, but they are not based on valid reasoning. Therefore, breaking an argument into parts, such as a diagram or table, allows us to identify potential weaknesses. Finally, a good argument requires clear language, free of emotion, and supported by solid arguments and well-structured reasoning.
